One of the best weapons against insects in turf's is to create a healthy plant. In almost every case, insects weeds and disease seek plants that are in stress. If a grass is growing in a healthy, balanced soil, if it is mowed correctly and watered properly it will be able to withstand almost anything that comes it's way. If it is deficient in any of these categories, it can be taken over or killed quit easily.

  Insects

Insects out number man 500,000 to 1. Many of them are beneficial to the Turf Manager by helping in decomposing organic matter and improving soil structure. In spite of our efforts, insects have survived and have actually increased in number.   It is important to understand that when we go outside we enter an area where we both exist outside our homes.  Most insects have no interests in us at all and they are more afraid of us then we are of them.  Sometimes the best thing to do is to simply watch and enjoy them.  Educate yourself on the different types of insects and why they do what they do.

If you must destroy them then do not use the same chemical year after year. Switching around will insure that the target insect is not building an immunity to your weapon.  

If your problem is an insect, you must remember that effective chemical control requires proper identification of the target pest. You can identify your pest by coming to our insect page. Effective control also requires accurate timing of applications, proper rate of application and proper uniformity of application. Always follow all label recommendations.
